Airbrush Makeup Artist, Phoenix, Arizona: Posted on Thursday, January 26, 2012 4:38 PM
I am so thankful to have been a part of Jen's special day. We did two trials together, and in that time I came to know what a lovely person she is, inside and out, and also what her specific wedding makeup needs were. Jen wanted something dramatic, but not TOO dramatic, and something to even out her skintone. Airbrush makeup was of course perfect for evening out her skintone, and also for customizing to her exact match. She likes to be tan, but like most girls in Phoenix, Arizona, she wears SPF on her face, making it a few shades lighter than her chest and arms. That is why oftentimes people have pale or paler faces in pictures. So, for Jen's wedding makeup I custom mixed her airbrush makeup to match her deep tan. I did the makeup for all Jen's girls. I love this photo showing a quiet moment of prayer/reflection before Jen's life changes forever. Awwww is all I can say :) Brides often ask me if the airbrush makeup lasts all day...yes it DOES, through the dinner, the dancing, and on into the night!

I was extemely fortunate to work with Brianna and her family for her Quinceañera. Brianna has nice skin already, but the airbrush makeup evened out her skintone. For her eyes I did a smokey plum look, which went beautifully with her princess pink gown. Airbrush makeup is ideal for matching any skintone, and you can see that Brianna's beautiful face perfectly matches her chest and arms Brianna's sister chose a more dramatic smokey eye, which looks beautiful on dark brown eyes. Two more of my beautiful Quinceañeras in the photos below:

Two questions I get all the time - "What is airbrush makeup?" and "Why should I hire a professional airbrush makeup artist for my wedding?" So, here's my "3 P's" of airbrush makeup - Product: Airbrush makeup is a very thin liquid makeup, much thinner than traditional makeup, which makes it very easy to mix several colors together and customize to match any skintone. Airbrush makeup is also highly pigmented, giving true and rich color without looking "caked on." There are several professional brands; I use Temptu. Process: Airbrush makeup is applied through an airbrush gun, a tool that allows the custom blended makeup to pass through as a light, cooling mist of air on the face. Coverage can be sheer, or built upon to cover scars, tattoos, and blemishes. Perks: #10 no streaking, #9 no fading, #8 sheer OR full coverage #7 won't transfer - won't rub off on your hubby's tux, #6 sweatproof - great for Arizona heat, #5 waterproof - can stand up to all those tears, #4 never cakey #3 hypoallergenic spray, #2 FAST - makeup is sprayed on in minutes without the need for endless blending, and the #1 all time reason to use airbrush makeup on your wedding day - it LASTS ALL DAY!! -no need for touch-ups!!

As with any makeup application, airbrush makeup looks best with clean, moisturized skin. Your skincare routine doesn't have to be complex, just cleanse, moisturize, exfoliate. 1. Cleanse - Take it all off I like Philosophy's Purity Made Simple cleanser - it is very gentle and puts moisture back into your skin so it doesn't feel tight and itchy after washing. I also like Olay's Daily Facial Cloths - also non-drying and removes all trace of eye makeup in one step 2. Exfoliate - Get rid off dead skin & renew If you take off your makeup at night, all you would need to do is exfoliate in your morning shower. The trick here is not to grind this into your face, but to slowly move product over face in circular motions for 2 minutes. I read in Allure once that what matters is how long you exfoliate. A good one is Burt's Bees Peach & Willowbark Scrub 3. Moisturize - Put moisture back in I know, I know, nobody wants to feel like they're putting grease on their face, so I always have twenty-something brides try Philosophy's Hope in a Jar - super light-weight but very hydrating it is always a top fave on beauty editor lists and Sephora's #1 seller several years in a row. I have been using this one (Ole Henriksen Sheer Transformation) for weeks for both daytime and nighttime and love, love, love it! Very light and sheer - goes on and absorbs like water - but with wonderful hydration. This is definitely worth a try for you non-believers! If your skin tends to be very dry, try Korres' 24 -Hour Wild Rose Moisturizer For airbrush makeup to work well, skin needs to be moisturized. A lot of brides skip this to try to dry out blemishes or think that moisturizing will cause them to break out. The reality is that your skin needs moisture and it will actually produce more oil if you don't, and you'll end up with breakouts and rough, flaky patches Additional skin preparation tips: 1) Don't wait until your wedding month to try facials and waxing. You need to try them a few months out to make sure you don't get reactions or redness, so that you're not dealing with that on your wedding day. 2) Eyebrow shaping should be done no earlier than two weeks out from your date. Your eyebrows will still have their nice shape, but you won't have any lingering redness you might have if they are done only a week out. 3) Bring examples of makeup looks that you like to your makeup trial. This will ensure that your makeup artist knows how dramatic or natural you want to look.

Up the wow factor in your total bridal look with nicely shaped brows. Brows are just as important to your perfect bridal look as your hair and makeup. Badly shaped brows can create an unwanted look in your wedding photos. The most common brow mistakes seen in wedding photos are: 1. The Angry Brow Arches too far away from the eye, resulting in eyes looking closer together than they actually are and a frowning effect. Another Angry Brow - again due to an arch too far from the center of the eye and way too high 2. The Nostalgic Brow Trends in brow shape come and go on models in magazines - like this 'bushy in front, thin in back' look - but when you're looking back on your wedding photos years from now, you don't want to be dated with a look from a trend gone by. 3. The Extreme Brow
Too dark brows take attention away from the eyes. The rule of thumb is that dark hair should have brows that are two shades lighter, light hair should have brows that are two shades darker. Brows should not exactly match your haircolor. 4. The Disappearing Brow
Photos with missing or too pale brows create a lifeless expression. Use brow shadows and pencils to softly create brow shape. This will mostly be an issue with redheads and fair blondes. Take a Brow! Finally a polished, well-groomed brow! Nice thickness, being fuller in front and tapering towards the end, with a natural arch. Maybe your brows are thin or sparse in places...not to worry! You can fill them in and still have them look natural. I prefer using brow powder with an angled brow brush instead of lining with pencils (again, a more natural look). Brows should not be the exact shade of your haircolor. A good rule to follow: dark hair - two shades lighter light hair - two shades darker. I use the Anastasia dual powder compact with angled brush. Use the lighter color on the thicker area of the brow (front); use the darker color on thinner area (the ends).

There were some very warm, and some very cold days here in Arizona in the month of April, and from 7am to 12 midnight, airbrush makeup served my April brides well!
