As with any makeup application, airbrush makeup looks best with clean, moisturized skin. Your skincare routine doesn't have to be complex, just cleanse, moisturize, exfoliate.
1. Cleanse - Take it all off
I like Philosophy's Purity Made Simple cleanser - it is very gentle and puts moisture back into your skin so it doesn't feel tight and itchy after washing.
I also like Olay's Daily Facial Cloths - also non-drying and removes all trace of eye makeup in one step
2. Exfoliate - Get rid off dead skin & renew
If you take off your makeup at night, all you would need to do is exfoliate in your morning shower. The trick here is not to grind this into your face, but to slowly move product over face in circular motions for 2 minutes. I read in Allure once that what matters is how long you exfoliate.
A good one is Burt's Bees Peach & Willowbark Scrub
3. Moisturize - Put moisture back in
I know, I know, nobody wants to feel like they're putting grease on their face, so I always have twenty-something brides try Philosophy's Hope in a Jar - super light-weight but very hydrating it is always a top fave on beauty editor lists and Sephora's #1 seller several years in a row.
I have been using this one (Ole Henriksen Sheer Transformation) for weeks for both daytime and nighttime and love, love, love it! Very light and sheer - goes on and absorbs like water - but with wonderful hydration. This is definitely worth a try for you non-believers!
If your skin tends to be very dry, try Korres' 24 -Hour Wild Rose Moisturizer
For airbrush makeup to work well, skin needs to be moisturized. A lot of brides skip this to try to dry out blemishes or think that moisturizing will cause them to break out. The reality is that your skin needs moisture and it will actually produce more oil if you don't, and you'll end up with breakouts and rough, flaky patches
Additional skin preparation tips:
1) Don't wait until your wedding month to try facials and waxing. You need to try them a few months out to make sure you don't get reactions or redness, so that you're not dealing with that on your wedding day.
2) Eyebrow shaping should be done no earlier than two weeks out from your date. Your eyebrows will still have their nice shape, but you won't have any lingering redness you might have if they are done only a week out.
3) Bring examples of makeup looks that you like to your makeup trial. This will ensure that your makeup artist knows how dramatic or natural you want to look.
